Playlists

Build dynamic playlists with flexible rotation, durations, and transitions.

Creating a Playlist

Navigate to Dashboard → Playlists and click "Create Playlist".

  1. Give your playlist a descriptive name
  2. Click "Add Content" to browse your content library
  3. Select one or more items — images, videos, widgets, or documents
  4. Arrange items using drag-and-drop to set playback order
  5. Set the duration for each item (how long it displays on screen)
  6. Choose a rotation mode and configure transitions
  7. Click "Publish" when ready

Rotation Modes

StreamSign supports three rotation modes that control how content cycles through the playlist:

Sequential

Content plays in the exact order listed. After the last item, it loops back to the first. Use for ordered presentations or step-by-step messaging.

Shuffle

Content plays in random order. Every item plays once before the cycle repeats. Use for varied, dynamic displays that don't feel repetitive.

Weighted

Assign a weight (priority) to each item. Higher-weight items play more frequently. Use for prioritizing certain content (e.g., promotions) while still showing other items.

Duration & Transitions

Each content item in a playlist has its own duration setting (in seconds). For video content, you can set the duration to match the video length or specify a custom duration.

Transitions control how content switches between items. Options include cut (instant), fade, slide, and dissolve. Transition duration is configurable.

Draft & Published States

Playlists have two states:

  • Draft: The playlist is being edited and is not visible to players. Use this to prepare content before it goes live.
  • Published: The playlist is live and available for scheduling. Any changes to a published playlist take effect immediately on connected players.

Tip: If your organization uses approval workflows, published playlists may require approval before they are deployed to players.
